Single 'em up | 16 November 2006 Tonight I came home to a thing of beauty: ![]() And the choirs of heaven rang out in song. I had called our preferred local independent bookstore today to ask when they would start selling the above, hoping that they would ignore the official North American release date of November 21. The first person I talked to didn’t even know, and the second rhymed off the official date with no heart whatsoever. But I had toolbar-bookmarked the book’s page at the national bookstore chain, and out of boredom checked the page before class started. To my astonishment and thigh-quaking delight, two stores nearby had it. If I had only checked before I left work, I could have picked it up on my way to class! (But my backpack had no spare room: I would’ve had to carry it, cradled lovingly in my arms, covered in kisses.) I emailed Scott in a tizzy, doing all but actually ask him to walk downtown at night in the rain to buy me a copy — although I didn’t intend to start reading it right away anyway (I’m just getting into Larson’s Devil in the White City and would like to finish it before I start Against the Day), and I could just pick up a copy on my way home tomorrow. But of course, because I have the best husband ever, the was book waiting for me — perched calm, wise, and benevolent under lamplight, with a snicker ready to erupt at any moment. <—– Previous: A good clamp | Next: Nothing doing –—>
